What is TACS?

TACS stands for ‘The Addictions Counselling Service’ and is a new Hillingdon Mind Project.

 

What do we do?

We offer long term, low cost, counselling to people who are affected by an addictive disorder; our aim is to help you identify the issues which may have led to you to develop an addictive disorder to help in your recovery.

 

What do we need from you?

We need you to have a real commitment to recovery and the willingness to be honest and accepting of the therapeutic process.

 

What is an Addictive Disorder?

This refers to a particular set of personality traits that make an individual predisposed to addictions. Addictive behaviours are defined by the “excessive, repetitive use of pleasurable activities to cope with unmanageable internal conflict, pressure, and stress.”

We offer Counselling for the following disorders:-

Alcohol & Drugs – Please note however, for this disorder it is important that you have been abstinent from use for at least one week; in order for therapy to be effective you need to be clean of substances.

  • Gambling
  • Food (eating)
  • Kleptomania (compulsive stealing)
  • Sex & Love Addiction
  • Pornography (attaining, viewing)
  • Using computers / the internet
  • Playing video games
  • Working
  • Exercising
  • Spiritual obsession (as opposed to religious devotion)
  • Pain (seeking)
  • Cutting

How do I access the service?

We accept self-referrals and a professionals’ referral i.e. GP, ARCH. To complete a referral form please select one of:-

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will send you some forms to complete; following this we will make an appointment with you to carry out an assessment of your needs.

Is there a cost involved?

Yes, there is a minimum charge of £10 per session, which rises to a maximum of £35. However, payment is assessed on a means tested basis, the actual amount you pay being discussed and agreed during your initial assessment.

How long does a session last?

Each session lasts 50 minutes.

All the Counselling Team have specialist addictions training in addition to their Counselling training.
