What is Counselling?

Counselling offers you an opportunity to talk about particular areas in your life that are causing you distress with someone who is trained to listen. It can help you to make better sense of the feelings you are experiencing and enable you to see difficulties in a more manageable way.

Counsellors are trained to listen without giving advice or being judgmental, someone who will help you find your own answers.

Counselling at Mind

Hillingdon Mind offers a free counselling service to residents of the London Borough of Hillingdon who are on low income and are experiencing mental or emotional difficulties.

This service is confidential and all counselling is undertaken by carefully selected counsellors who are qualified or in their final year of a recognised counselling course. We offer one-to-one counselling sessions as well as group therapy.

Hillingdon Mind counselling project is an organisational member of the British Association for Counselling. All counsellors will abide by the B.A.C.P. Code of Ethics.

Many counsellors have specialist skills in areas such as:

  • depression
  • bereavement and loss
  • relationships
  • sexual abuse
  • anxiety
  • stress management
  • mental health

Hillingdon Mind will make every effort to place you with the counsellor best equipped to deal with your particular difficulties.

If you would like to know more about our service, please make an appointment for an assessment.

Fee Paying Counselling

For those of you who are not eligible for our free counselling service (earning over £16,000 per annum), we offer a fee- paying service. You will be given a rate based on your income. This starts at a minimum of £25 per session, and increases by £1 per session for every £1,000 of salary above an annual salary of £25,000. The amount to be paid per session will be agreed prior to your first counselling session.

Please be aware there is a standard charge of £35 for your initial assessment.

Group Therapy - NO VACANCIES

Group therapy is an ideal place to practice new behaviours and boost self-esteem. You can learn a lot about yourself in relation to how you respond to others in the group. It can make a huge difference to realise that you are not the only person struggling with issues in your life.

This is an opportunity to explore feelings and relationships within a safe environment with two experienced therapists.

The group runs every Tuesday from 1.30pm to 3.00pm and is an ongoing established long-term therapy group of up to 8 members at any one time.
